Three physical characteristics that channel idents have:
One thing that TV idents have in common is their logos which invest in their brand, just to keep people engaged to the channel. But this will definitely engage people because an ident is a strong visual representation of a channel. Also brand recognition. For example - BBC Three, BBC One, Cartoon Network
Also, idents appeal to a particular audience. BBC1, this channel appeals to anybody & everybody, reason being is because in the morning time, the news will come on appealing to adults from 06:00am to roundabout 03:00 in the afternoon. Than after that children's programmes come on, for example - (Blue Peter, Newsround, Deadly Art).
TV idents also have voice overs, these voice overs come either before the programme starts, or when the credits are being shown at the end of the show, keeping the viewers attracted from changing the channel. Channel 4, always advise the viewers to see their other channels such as - E4, Film4, 4Music. As a voice over tells them what programmes are gonna be shown on these channels. Many other channels do the same thing, such as - Cartoon Network, BBC Three, BBC Two and so on.
